She choked, not him
The 💯 STORY CHALLENGE and dying to improve life.
She choked back tears as she said, “Life is precious, a gift from God, so I’m at fault. I am the true sinner.”
“The Lord won’t hold you accountable for your husband’s actions.”
“If I hadn’t been so ungrateful, he wouldn’t have transgressed.”
“This isn’t a lavish residence, and you lead a humble lifestyle.”
“But I demanded a better standard of living before having children. He was desperate to enable us to become parents.”
“When did you realize he’d begun stealing?”
“Despite the farmer telling me there’d been no pay increase, he brought home a splendid roasting chicken.”
“So, was it you who informed the police?”
“No, after witnesses came forward, the magistrate issued an arrest warrant. When a patrol car approached up the path, he guessed their purpose and ran from the house. However meager, his earnings paid the rent, and without them, this smallholding will prove too expensive. But those worries are nothing compared to the misery my selfishness inflicted on him during his escape.”
“Try not to distress yourself. Although small comfort, the officers who retrieved his body from the barn say the noose broke his neck, so he wouldn’t have suffered.”
